About Us
FLI (Facey's Leadership Initiative) was started in 2006 with around 35 students. Today it has grown to over 60 active participants whose main focus is to help provide events and service for the school and local community. These participants are students from grades ten, eleven, and twelve who have made a special commitment to make their school and its community a great place to be. These students give FLI both the ideas and the gusto to carry those ideas out. FLI is based upon three pillars- Leadership Training, Service, and Opportunity. These pillars, combined with a philosophy of "multi-strength leadership", provide the base that has allowed FLI to become the dynamic and diverse group that it is.
Leadership Training
FLI meets weekly to disucss topics such as time management, public speaking, and the principles of leadership. The goal of these meetings is to encourage the students to expand their knowledge of and acquire the skills needed to host great events and develop as school and community leaders.
Service
FLI encourages students to participate in many different volunteer opportunities over the course of the year. These opportunities are in Facey (ex. refereeing the school intramurals), the local community (ex. trips to the Mustard Seed church or Strathcona Christmas Bureau) and the global village (ex. fundraising causes).
Opportunity
To some extent, opportunity also goes along with leadership training. In FLI, we do our best to provide as many opportunities for our students as possible. The range is as diverse as the interests of the students in the group and can include aspects of service, leadership, and personal development. The projects may be short term or long range, and may extend outside of school and after graduation. FLI offers help to find things like educational support, scholarship applications, retreats, and conferences.
Conclusion
Overall, FLI is a group of extremely dedicated, caring, wonderful individuals all doing their best to make a difference in the world. We love what we do, and it is that enthusiasm and inspiration that we try to share with the world.
