Spark Leadership Conference
Mission Statement
I. Objective:
In our opinion, an essential part of leadership development is learning and hearing from other people who are making an impact within their communities because it motivates us to do the same. This is why we would like to continue and build upon the Spark legacy by organizing the third annual Spark conference for junior high students. Our goal for this year is to have about 400 students attend.
II. Time Frame:
The date for this year’s conference is April 16th, 2012. We are choosing to hold the event on a weekday because we feel we will be able to yield a higher number of participants then if we were to hold it on a weekend. The conference will take place over an entire school day, with students arriving at the venue between 9:00 and 9:30 am and departing between 2:30 – 3:00 pm in order to catch regular buses home.
III. Location:
We will be holding this year’s conference at Strathcona County’s Community Centre. We feel that this is the perfect location for such an event as it provides ample space for the break-out sessions, as well as a large auditorium which will be used for our keynote speaker as well as opening and closing comments.
IV. Advertisement:
We have budgeted an amount of our entire budget to be put towards advertising. This will include posters at the event itself, as well as brochures to send out to schools that we have invited. We will also be in touch with the media representatives such as newspaper editors, radio personnel’s, television broadcasters and any other possible contacts. We would also like to do a press release through E.I.P.S.
V. Schools:
For this year’s conference we would like to branch outside of Elk Island Public School System and invite numerous other schools from other districts in the surrounding Edmonton area. Through the Expecting Respect Conference that was held earlier this year we have already made contact with many junior high schools, and since last year’s conference was such a success we would like to invite those schools that were in attendance.
Conclusion
We realize that this project is going to take a considerable amount of work and that it will require a large amount of commitment and dedication in order for it to be successful. We are fully aware of what we are getting ourselves into and feel strongly that it will be worth it in the end as this is something we are all passionate about.
